Hunting is permitted during March in the entire area and from March 1 to May 15 in selected areas of the archipelago.

- The protective hunt should protect already sensitive fish stocks such as the perch.

By hunting cormorants in the important regeneration areas, you can scare them away during most of the fish's regeneration period, says Jim Forsberg, wildlife officer at the Östergötland County Administrative Board.

In 2022, the Östergötland County Administrative Board drew up the county's first management plan for cormorants and has now decided that a maximum of 2,000 cormorants may be felled.

The hunters must submit a hunting report on the County Administrative Board's website as soon as possible after a cormorant has been felled.

It is so that the County Administrative Board can evaluate the effects of the protection hunt.

After the turn of the millennium, the gap increased sharply in Östergötland county, but has leveled off in recent years.

Today there are approximately 6,500 breeding pairs and most pairs are found in the archipelago.

According to research, a cormorant eats an average of 500 grams of fish per day.
