The “peace summit” announced by Kiev at the UN platform did not take place in the end, said Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the world organization.

“Finally, we can sum up the results of a very difficult week for our team... We can immediately say that the “summit on Ukraine” announced by Mr. Kuleba back in January did not take place.

Not separately, not in "totality".

It is hardly possible to count for it the event held by the Ukrainians in the fields, organized more like a talk show, which was attended by only five European ministers and completely ignored by the UN leadership.

Therefore, the topic of the “summit” in Kyiv is unlikely to be promoted,” the diplomat wrote in his Telegram channel.

According to him, instead, Kyiv will actively advertise the results of the vote in the UN General Assembly on the anti-Russian resolution.

“Surely they will stick out the adoption by the General Assembly of another useless anti-Russian resolution.

True, the votes fell a little short of the historical record, but 141 votes in favor seems to be a good result.

It’s just that the text for this had to be rounded and emasculated to vague platitudes, the notorious Zelensky peace initiative also fell out of it, ”said Polyansky.

At the same time, the diplomat added, the West put pressure on the countries that took part in the voting.

“Methods for achieving results are again cowboyish, UN colleagues from developing countries vied with each other complaining to us about Westerners behind our backs, asking us not to be offended and to get into position,” said the Deputy Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN.

"Washington PR"

Recall that in December last year, Ukraine announced the holding of a "peace summit".

This was announced on December 12 in an address to the leaders of the G7 member countries by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“I propose to convene a special summit - the Global Peace Formula Summit - to decide how and when we can implement the points of the Ukrainian peace formula.

I invite you, as well as other conscientious states, to show your leadership in the implementation of the peace formula as a whole or its specific points,” Zelensky addressed the leaders of the G7.

The mentioned formula consists of ten points, and in particular provides for the creation of a “special tribunal” against the Russian Federation, the payment of reparations to Kyiv and the return of the territories that have separated from it to Ukraine.

According to analysts, this "peace" plan is divorced from reality and will not be able to serve as a solution to the conflict.

“The points of the Kyiv plan do not suit Russia in any way, so they can be discussed as much as they like, but there will be no result from this.

They do not have a compromise solution acceptable to both sides, ”said Vladimir Bruter, an expert at the International Institute for Humanitarian and Political Studies, in a conversation with RT.

Later, in his speeches, Zelensky returned to the idea of holding a summit several times.

So, on December 18, he made an appeal in which he stated that Kyiv wants to hold a "summit that unites all the nations in the world around the course towards global peace."

And on December 21, during a speech in the US Congress, he said that the initiative of Kyiv was supported by the head of the White House, Joe Biden.

“Ukraine has already made relevant proposals, and I just discussed them with President Biden – our formula for peace.

Ten points that can and should be implemented for the sake of our common security, guaranteed for decades to come.

And a summit that can be held -- I'm happy to note today that President Biden supported this initiative of ours.

Each of you, ladies and gentlemen, can contribute to its implementation, ”he said from the congress rostrum.

The topic was developed on December 26, when Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said in an interview with AP that Kyiv plans to hold this international meeting on the UN platform before the end of winter.

“We think that the best venue for this summit could be the UN site, because here it’s not about doing a favor to any country, it’s really about getting everyone involved,” he said, adding that Ukraine would welcome the participation of UN Secretary General António Guterres as a mediator.

According to AP, Kuleba also said that in order to negotiate directly with Ukraine, Russia must first appear before a "war crimes tribunal."

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called Kyiv's initiative to hold a "peace summit" another US PR campaign.

“We regard such a crazy idea as another PR stunt by Washington, which has recently been trying to present the Kiev regime as a peacemaker,” she said during a December 29 briefing.

"Promotion of the Ukrainian position"

According to experts, Polyansky's words indicate that Kyiv's attempts to arrange a "peace summit" at the UN before the end of winter failed.

“Kyiv's initiative failed, as the world has accumulated fatigue from the Ukrainian theme.

Over the past year, Ukraine has ceased to be the main topic on the agenda, ”Vadim Kozyulin, head of the Center for Global Studies and International Relations of the IAMP Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said in an interview with RT.

In this regard, the analyst recalled the fate of another similar initiative of Kiev - the "Crimean Platform", when in 2021 Zelensky initiated the creation of a new international format "to search for and further implement a set of measures to de-occupy the peninsula and protect the rights of Crimeans."

“The activity of Kyiv around the “peace summit” reminded the story of the “Crimean Platform”.

Like the current event, the Crimean Platform was not very successful then,” Kozyulin stated.

Recall that the forum initiated by Kiev was held in the capital of Ukraine in the summer of 2021.

The event was attended by the heads of the Baltic republics, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Moldova, Slovenia and Finland.

However, contrary to the expectations of the Kyiv regime, none of the leaders of the leading Western countries came to the summit, no significant decisions were made at the forum.

Nevertheless, analysts believe that the failure that befell the Crimean Platform and the Peace Summit does not mean that Kyiv will refuse to implement its idea.

This, in particular, can be evidenced by the statements of the head of Zelensky’s office, Andriy Yermak, who on February 22 said that the summit could not be held on the basis of the UN.

As the official said, "it could be a very unexpected place ... there are many who want to spend it."

Yermak added that it is important for Kyiv that not only partners of Ukraine, but also other countries take part in the event.

And on February 24, Zelensky said that Ukraine continues to work on holding a founding summit to implement the peace formula and plans to involve as many states as possible in this action, including India and China, as well as the countries of Latin America and Africa.

Recall that these states refused to support Western sanctions against the Russian Federation and do not share the aggressive position of the US and the EU on the conflict in Ukraine.

According to analysts, Kyiv is unlikely to be able to achieve the participation of neutral countries in the summit.

“They are not interested in any form to take part in the Ukrainian conflict.

The countries of Africa, Latin America and Asia constantly claim that they want this conflict to end, that they not be drawn into it, and that the Western organizers of this conflict do not consider that it is a global one,” Vladimir Bruter said.

At the same time, he expressed confidence that the West and Ukraine will continue to try to create various international formats to imitate worldwide support for Kyiv.

“The United States will always look for formats to advance the Ukrainian position.

There was a "Crimean platform", but it failed.

Now the "peace summit", then there will be the following options.

Joe Biden's visit to Poland was also supposed to give impetus to such platforms, but nothing came of it.

What exactly they will do next in this direction is still premature to talk about this, since the West itself has not finally decided on this.

In many ways, their next steps will depend on the development of the situation on the fronts, ”concluded Bruter.
