Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that the West has one goal, which is to eliminate his country, saying that "his plans to divide Russia are documented on paper."

Putin added, in remarks to a Russian channel broadcast on Sunday, that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is an indirect partner in what he called the crimes committed by Kiev.

He stressed that his country should take into account the nuclear capabilities of the alliance.

The Russian president said that NATO countries "send tens of billions of dollars' worth of weapons to Ukraine, and this is an active participation" in the conflict.

Putin added that "the world must change, and Russia opposes building a new world for the benefit of only one country, the United States," stressing that his country will not treat other countries the way Washington adopts.

Putin's statements come as his country's war in Ukraine enters its second year without a resolution or a horizon for a political solution to end the conflict through negotiations.

Russia accuses Kiev's allies, led by NATO, of seeking to destroy it and expand towards its borders, while the alliance denies these accusations and responds that Putin started an "unjustified" war on Ukraine.

Although NATO countries, led by the United States, provided Ukraine with weapons and equipment during the war, those countries are keen on the words of their officials to stress that there will be no direct military clash with Moscow.
