Activists on social media circulated pictures showing the thickness and density of snow in regions of southeastern Morocco, following a fall that disrupted traffic and isolated a number of small villages.

Activists and local media said that the snow was nearly 5 meters high on regional road No. 317 in the "Tenghir" region, which mediates the High Atlas and Small Atlas mountain ranges.

The pictures show the size of the high snow blocks while the tractors opened the roads to facilitate the movement of movement.

The authorities in the region are working to remove snow and open roads to break the isolation of the besieged areas.

Heavy precipitation

Morocco has been witnessing heavy and continuous snowfalls for a week in the highlands and rural areas, which led to the closure of a number of roads and caused material damage, including housing and livestock.

Yesterday, Thursday, the General Directorate of Meteorology expected strong rains, sometimes thundery, snowfalls, and strong winds in a number of regions of the Kingdom.

Several regions in Morocco, especially in the center, the Atlas Mountains and the southeast, witnessed heavy snowfall, which trapped the population there.

Residents of a number of these areas appealed to the authorities to help them after they were affected by the snow, through posts and video clips broadcast on social media.

These precipitations come after a drought that affected the agricultural and water sector, and the entire economy, due to its strong connection to agriculture in Morocco.
