According to information for Dagen Eko, there are around 90 new members in a very short time.

The increase comes ahead of the meeting on March 18, when Botkyrka's social democrats will appoint a new group leader, also a candidate for new municipal board chairman.

In order to vote at the March meeting, you must have been a member of the party for at least one month.

Åsa Westlund, district chairman of the party in Stockholm, does not want to confirm the figure but tells SVT that there are about that many.

And despite wanting new party members, the new influx is problematic and worrying, she says.

Struggle within the party

The influx of new members comes in the wake of the battle within the party in the municipality.

The former municipal board chairman Ebba Östlin resigned earlier in February after she lost a vote of confidence at a members' meeting on January 28.

According to some information, it must have been a coup carried out with the help of people with connections to criminal gangs.

According to the party's own investigation, there has been no such infiltration.

The party must now investigate whether members were recruited in an irregular manner.
