At least 6 people died and over 294 were injured in the two powerful earthquakes in Turkey on Monday.

This is reported by the AP news agency with reference to the Turkish agency for disaster management, AFAD.

In Syria, a woman and a younger girl are said to have died as a result of the panic that arose during the earthquakes, according to pro-government media, according to the same news agency.

In the rebel-controlled areas of northern Syria, 190 people are said to have also been injured when several buildings collapsed, but there is no information on the number of people who may have fallen under the ethnic masses.

Do not dare to go back to their homes

While people mourn relatives who lost their lives during the first quakes two weeks ago, Monday's quake was like another trauma on top of an ongoing trauma.

That's what Turkish Ayse Yildirim, who lives in one of the hardest-hit areas in southern Turkey, says.

Many are also afraid that it could happen again and do not dare to go back to their homes.

Khadija al-Khalaf, who lives in the city of Azaz in Syria with her three children, has also developed a strong fear of being indoors.

When the tremors started on Monday, they ran out of the house as fast as they could.

- We were just so afraid that we would end up under the racial masses, as many others have done, says Khadija al-Khalaf.

Despite the fact that the four-story house she usually lives in has survived the several strong earthquakes of the past two weeks, and the more than 6,000 smaller aftershocks, she and the children do not dare to go back into the building.

Instead, they now sleep on the street.

- We have only taken out a mattress and a few blankets so that the children don't freeze, but we don't know when we can go back, she says.

Monday's quake had a magnitude of 6.3.

It was followed by another quake three minutes later, with a magnitude of 5.8.

According to Reuters witnesses, the earthquake was felt as far away as Jordan, Cyprus, Israel, Lebanon and Egypt.
