Specialist doctors and general practitioners have been able to refer patients with fatigue syndrome, long-term pain as well as ME/CFS and complicated pain problems to special private pain clinics.

But now Region Stockholm has changed the choice of care so that in future patients will primarily seek care within primary care.

Talla Alkurdi (S), health care regional councilor, believes that the change is not about a cost saving of approximately SEK 300 million that the choice of care costs per year, but that the region should be responsible for the care itself.

Receives strong criticism from the opposition regional council

According to Region Stockholm, the abolition of the choice of care should be completed in 2025. Désirée Pethru's opposition regional councilor (KD) believes that it is far too early and that patients risk falling through the cracks when the choice of care is removed and private specialist clinics only address patients with private health insurance.
