In order to enter and smoke dive a house on fire, there must be five firefighters in a group.
Currently, there are 13 part-time firefighters in Bjurholm, which means that you do not have three full groups.
If you are an incomplete group, you therefore have to wait for reinforcement from another station, which can take time.
The problem is solved by having the existing firefighters jump between the groups, something which, according to Mikael Frithiof, is not sustainable in the long run.
- It eats away and you put your whole family on standby.
If you work two weeks in a row with evenings and weekends, you lock the family out.
Trying to recruit more
As a part-time firefighter, you must always be available during the days you work.
This means that you must be close enough to the fire station that you can be dressed and ready in the fire engine on its way to the accident, only five minutes after the alarm has been received.
In order to bring in more people who want to work as part-time firefighters, they have, among other things, organized "girls' nights", with the aim of getting women interested in the profession.
