During his short European tour, Biden has met both Zelenskyi in Kiev and Poland's Duda.

After the meeting with the latter, the president gave a speech in the Polish capital - a speech that revolved around the year that has passed since Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine.

- When Russia invaded, it was not only Ukraine that was put to the test.

The whole world was put to the test, says Joe Biden in Warsaw.

NATO, the United States and Europe have shown unity and have stood up to Russia, Biden emphasized.

He also mentioned Sweden's and Finland's NATO applications.

- Putin thought he would get a Finlandization of NATO, instead he got a NATOification of Finland... and Sweden, Biden said.

New sanctions this week

A message that Biden hammered home in recent days - and which was repeated in the speech - is that US support for Ukraine will continue.

He also promised new sanctions aimed at Russia.

They will be presented this week, Biden said.

Russia will never win in Ukraine, but the Russian president can put an end to the violence, says Biden.

- Putin can end the war with a word.

He also addressed the Russian people, saying that they "are not the enemy" and that the West has no plans to attack Russia.
