February 22nd is "Takeshima Day" as determined by Shimane Prefecture's ordinance.

At the ceremony, which is held for the first time in two years and is open to the general public, Shimane Prefecture will once again appeal that Takeshima is Japan's inherent territory.

Shimane Prefecture has designated February 22nd as "Takeshima Day" by ordinance, when Takeshima came under the jurisdiction of the prefecture during the Meiji period, and holds a ceremony every year in Matsue City.

This year's 18th ceremony is scheduled to be attended by officials from the prefecture and Okinoshima Town, where Takeshima is located.

Since the infection situation of the new coronavirus has calmed down, it will be held for the first time in two years by recruiting general participants.

From the government, Hideyuki Nakano, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of the Cabinet Office, is scheduled to attend the ceremony.

On the other hand, South Korea, which claims territorial rights over Takeshima, announced its first national defense white paper after the inauguration of the Yun Sung-ryeol administration on the 16th of this month, stating that ``Japan's territorial claims regarding Takeshima will be dealt with resolutely and severely."

At the ceremony, Shimane Prefecture will once again appeal that Takeshima is Japan's inherent territory, and will increase momentum toward a resolution.

Furthermore, we are requesting the government to quickly resolve the territorial rights claimed by South Korea.
