A week after the accident caused by Pierre Palmade under the influence of cocaine at the time of the events, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin announced that he was working with Éric Dupond-Moretti to rename fatal accidents due to drugs and alcohol.

What exactly are we talking about when we talk about road homicide?

In an interview granted to the

Journal du Dimanche

, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin formulated several measures to avoid road accidents linked to the taking of narcotics.

Among his proposals, he wants to strengthen controls at the wheel, automatically withdraw the driving license for anyone driving while having consumed drugs, make it compulsory for all proven drug users to have a medical examination so that they are authorized to drive if he treats himself and renames fatal accidents caused by drugs and alcohol as "road homicide".

Criminalize these offenses

"The idea is, it seems, to criminalize these offences, especially when there are involuntary homicides with one or two aggravating circumstances such as alcohol, the use of narcotics or driving without a license “, explains Rémy Josseaume, road law lawyer.

"Unfortunately, as often, we have to wait for a media drama with a notorious person for the public authorities to react. Because all those who have lived through this for years and years have never seen anything evolve in this direction. there", he continued at the microphone of Europe 1.

The creation of a road homicide offense requested by the victims

This is a request that has been demanded for a long time by road accident victims and associations.

"It can indeed be difficult to understand that a person is prosecuted for an involuntary act when the causes of his accident support voluntary behavior. Voluntarily, I will drink alcohol, voluntarily I will take narcotics, voluntarily I will take my vehicle. But in the end, I will be prosecuted for an involuntary fact which is the fact of having injured or killed someone, "he concludes.

As part of the Palmade case, the comedian was indicted for manslaughter and assigned to the hospital with an electronic bracelet.
