A commercial district in western Paris witnessed panic today, Saturday, after rumors circulated of a shooting in a shopping center.

And video clips on the communication sites showed the escape of a large number of people from the main shopping center in the “La Defense” neighborhood, in the “Au de Seine” region of the French capital.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said a security operation was underway in the neighbourhood, while Paris police advised the public to avoid the area.

The newspaper "Le Monde" said that a man committed suicide by throwing himself from an upper floor in the shopping center, causing panic among shoppers.

The newspaper added that the fall of the man caused a big bang, prompting people to believe that it was the sound of gunfire.

Later, a spokesman for the Paris police denied that shots had been fired at the station.

The incident caused a temporary halt to train services on one of the lines within the French capital, according to Le Monde.
