The government has decided to assign Masako Mori, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, who is in charge of women's empowerment, to be in charge of promoting understanding of LGBT people.

Following the dismissal of the Prime Minister's secretary for making discriminatory remarks about same-sex marriage, the Diet has become active in debates over legislative legislation to promote understanding of LGBT people.

Under these circumstances, the government decided on the 17th to assign Masako Mori, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, who is in charge of women's empowerment, to be in charge of promoting understanding of LGBT people.

Mr. Mori is 58 years old and has been elected three times in the House of Councilors Fukushima constituency.

She was elected for the first time in the 2007 election, and has served as Minister of Justice and other positions until now, and with the inauguration of the second Kishida Cabinet in November 2017, she was appointed Special Advisor to the Prime Minister.

At a press conference, Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno said, "There should be no unfair discrimination or prejudice based on sexual orientation or gender identity, and Advisor Mori will play a role in spreading understanding about LGBT issues among the public. I would like you to work hard to realize an inclusive society that recognizes each other."
