A comparison between old and new scenes of places in the state of Kahramanmaraş showed the extent of the devastation caused by the double earthquake that struck southern Turkey at dawn on February 6, leaving tens of thousands dead and injured and massive destruction.

Kahramanmaraş was hit by a 7.7-degree earthquake on the Richter scale, followed by a 7.6-degree earthquake on the same day, and the two successive violent tremors caused the collapse of a large number of buildings and landmarks in this state, especially in the regions of Dol Kadiroglu and On Iki Shabat.

The double earthquake completely destroyed thousands of homes in Kahramanmaraş, while the authorities announced that 11,000 homes needed urgent demolition.

Eleven days after it occurred, the death toll from the earthquake in southern Turkey exceeded 36,000, according to the latest official statistics.

In total, 11 states in southern Turkey were affected, and the damage included homes and infrastructure facilities such as roads, airports and ports, as well as large cracks in the ground.
