Russia requested a meeting of the UN Security Council regarding the new information about the Nord Stream gas pipeline explosions, after a report implicating the United States in the incident. It also demanded that Washington prove that it was not behind the sabotage.

"In light of new information regarding the Nord Stream gas pipeline explosions, we have requested a meeting of the UN Security Council on February 22," Russia's first deputy permanent representative to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky, wrote on his Telegram channel.

In his response to the new European sanctions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the Russian side is preparing to hold a special meeting in the UN Security Council to investigate the explosions of the "Nord Stream" pipelines, accusing the West of lying about it.

An invitation to Washington

Today, Thursday, the Russian Duma intends to consider a proposal for an urgent international investigation into the attack on the "Nord Stream" gas pipelines.

Meanwhile, the "Tass" news agency quoted the Russian embassy in the United States as saying today, Thursday, that Washington should try to prove that it is not behind the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines to transport gas from Russia to Western Europe.

The embassy said - in a statement - that Moscow considers the sabotage of the two pipelines "an act of international terrorism," and that it will not allow the matter to be kept secret.

report

The American journalist, Seymour Hersh, accused the media and prominent US authorities of concealing the story of Washington's involvement in the bombing.

On February 8, Hersh published an article about his investigation into explosions in gas pipelines, where he stated that during NATO's "Baltops" maneuvers, in the summer of 2022, American divers planted explosives under the gas pipelines, and then the Norwegians activated them after 3 months.

Hersh said that US President Joe Biden decided to sabotage Nord Stream after more than 9 months of secret discussions with the national security team.

According to him, the White House was afraid that because of the operation of the line, Germany would not want to provide aid to Ukraine.

On September 26, 2022, attacks took place simultaneously on two pipelines exporting Russian gas to Europe.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the explosion that targeted the Nord Stream gas pipeline was a "clear terrorist attack".
