In Spain, a law establishing "menstrual leave" has been officially adopted and offers these women the possibility of obtaining a work stoppage when their periods are too disabling.

A provision tested by a handful of companies in France, in particular at Louis, a manufacturer of furniture located in Toulouse.

“Each woman at Louis has the possibility each month of using a day of telework or menstrual leave”, explains Thomas Devineaux, CEO of the company, at the microphone of Europe 1. Free, not cumulative but not automatic, it n However, it is not necessary to provide any justification, he assures.

"There is no need for a word from the doctor or an agreement from the manager. It has to be based on trust and very easy to use," he insists. 

A less restrictive measure from an economic point of view

Especially since within a furniture manufacturer, teleworking is not always possible.

“We have as many people in the office as in the workshop. As much in the office, we can easily offer telework, as much it is not possible for the activity of the workshop because people are not going to leave with boards. of wood at home and bandage them at home", points out Thomas Devineaux.

Hence the interest of this menstrual day off.

"The leave allows a person to rest their day to really rest and come back the next day in great shape. So we will gain in efficiency".

From an economic point of view, this measure will not harm the competitiveness of the company, guarantees Thomas Devineaux: "The cost of a few dozen days of additional leave per year is largely compensated and you will have a tenfold impact in terms of culture and commitment".
