  Data from the Statistics and Census Service shows that the total tourist spending (excluding gaming) in the fourth quarter of 2022 in Macau was affected by the decrease in inbound tourists, and fell 23.5% year-on-year to 4.83 billion yuan; overnight visitors (4.12 billion yuan) and same-day visitors (710 million yuan) Yuan) consumption decreased by 19.6% and 40.3% respectively.

  In the fourth quarter, the per capita spending of visitors increased by 11.7% year-on-year to MOP 3,614. The per capita spending of same-day visitors (MOP 1,188) rose by 15.7%, while that of overnight visitors (MOP 5,572) decreased by 13.7%.

The per capita consumption of mainland tourists was 3,736 yuan, an increase of 11.6% year-on-year; the individual tourism tourists (6,179 yuan) fell by 15.9%.

  In terms of consumption categories, in the fourth quarter tourists spent mainly on shopping (62.5%), followed by catering (17.2%) and accommodation (14.1%).

Per capita shopping consumption increased by 2.4% year-on-year to 2,260 yuan, mainly for the purchase of cosmetics and perfume (657 yuan), souvenir food (372 yuan) and handbags and shoes (358 yuan).

  In addition, the annual per capita spending of visitors was MOP 3,187, a slight increase of 0.4% year-on-year; the per capita spending of overnight visitors (RMB 6,004) and same-day visitors (RMB 1,011) recorded increases of 4.1% and 29.3% respectively.

In terms of consumption categories of tourists, per capita spending on shopping (MOP 2,110) increased by 2.6% year-on-year, while food and beverages (MOP 488) and accommodation (MOP 428) decreased by 4.3% and 9.4% respectively.

  In terms of tourist evaluation, the proportion of tourists surveyed in 2022 who are satisfied with various services and facilities in Macao will increase compared with 2021; they are satisfied with environmental sanitation (96.8%), public facilities (95.4%) and hotel establishments (95.0%) ) increased by 0.2, 0.4 and 0.9 percentage points respectively, and the proportion of tourists (76.0%) who believed that Macao’s sightseeing spots were sufficient increased significantly by 5.0 percentage points.
