Investigator Peter Norman has today handed over his investigation to Infrastructure and Housing Minister Andreas Carlson (KD).

In the investigation, it is therefore proposed that more regional airports should be part of Swedavia, which operates and develops the national basic range of airports in Sweden.

In practical terms, a series of changes are proposed where, among other things, Skellefteå's airport is immediately included.

- The argument is that Skellefteå is a hub in the industrial revolution in Norrland.

There would be a more stable order and more accessibility for Skellefteå, says Peter Norman.

Kalmar can be included

In the long term, the government will also test whether the airports Ängelholm-Helsingborg, Kalmar-Öland and Sundsvall-Timrå can be included.

- Ängelholm has a large number of passengers today and a large concentration of businesses in its vicinity.

As far as Kalmar is concerned, it is in the shadow in terms of communication with, among other things, poor train connections.

If this happens that they (Kalmar) are included, you can imagine that Ronneby airport will be removed, says Norman.

In order to be included, the airports must be fossil-free, just like today.

They must also be run as limited companies, and the state must have a representative on the company's board.

The changed geopolitical situation and the security situation, together with the increased need for medical transport via air, motivates the changes, says Peter Norman.

The costs of the proposals are estimated at SEK 350 million, that is, a doubling of the current budget.

Repositioning

The changes are proposed at the same time as the airline tries to switch to a more sustainable route.

Several companies are working to develop electric aircraft, something Peter Norman points out.

His assessment is that electric flights will become a reality in scheduled flights around 2028, i.e. in five years.

- It will not revolutionize aviation but will be able to be a complement.
