In November, a dissenting board of senior citizens in Umeå municipality decided that the abolition of the current reduction of night working hours, so-called health schemes, and shared tours should be investigated.

The current shortening of night working hours for those who work continuously at night has been criticized as the employees work shorter night shifts instead of days off.

But in order for them to be abolished, more personnel and money are required.

- 25 new employees are required and will cost 23 million and I haven't received an extra 23 million, says Charlotta Lindqvist Barsk, director of nursing homes.

More staff required

Shared tours are proposed to be abolished in 2024, but even that requires large new hires – approximately 230 people need to be employed.

- Currently, we see that we do not have many applications for the vacant positions we have out there, so the search pressure is not huge, says Charlotta Lindqvist Barsk.

Can you get financial support for this to be implemented?

- It is the politicians who have to answer that.

But even today it is tight financially in terms of needs.

Right now, the issue is being investigated by a working group that also includes the trade unions.

In March, they must report back to the elderly council.

The proposal to abolish the current reduction in night working hours and shared trips was pushed through by the Left Party together with the Christian Democrats, the Liberals, the Moderates and the Center Party.

The Social Democrats and the Green Party argued for rejection.
