Rising rents in the US still play a large role as a driving factor behind inflation.

- It has been something people have been concerned about, but now we see signs that rents for new tenants are being reduced.

It is usually the case that this comes through with a certain delay on consumer prices, says Elisabet Kopelman.

- If you ignore that, we have still seen a normalization of the price development and sooner or later this should show through in the statistics.

Dropped less than expected

Inflation in the US fell to 6.4 percent in January after reaching 6.5 percent the month before.

Prior to today's announcement, many analysts had expected inflation of 6.2 percent.

Core inflation rose at the same time by 0.4 percent, which means an inflation rate of 5.6 percent, slightly higher than many expected.
