China News Agency, Washington, February 14 (Reporter Sha Hanting) Nikki Haley, former permanent representative of the United States to the United Nations, former governor of South Carolina, and Republican, announced on the 14th local time that she will participate in the 2024 US presidential election.

  Haley announced the news in a video posted on social media that day.

Haley said in the video, "Washington has repeatedly failed us, it is time to introduce a new generation of leaders."

  Haley, 51, was born in Bamberg, South Carolina, to Indian immigrant parents.

Haley earned a BA in accounting from Clemson University.

Haley was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2004 and was re-elected twice thereafter.

Haley became the first female governor of South Carolina in 2010 and was re-elected in 2014.

In November 2016, Trump, who won the presidential election, announced the appointment of Haley as the permanent representative to the United Nations.

Haley served as the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations from January 2017 to December 2018.

  Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced his candidacy last year.

Haley becomes the second Republican presidential candidate and a challenger to Trump.

  According to a report by CNN, Trump said on the same day that Haley asked her opinion before announcing that he was running for president. He expressed his support for Haley's election and wished her good luck.

  According to US media reports, many Republicans have expressed their intention to run for president, including Florida Governor DeSantis, former US Vice President Pence, and former Secretary of State Pompeo.

  On the Democratic side, U.S. President Biden recently stated that he "intends" to run again in 2024, but "has not yet made a final decision."
