China News Service, February 12 (Xinhua) According to Russian "Izvestia" on the 12th, European Parliament member Gunnar Baker was quoted as saying that the United States destroyed the "North Stream" pipeline in order to prevent Russia from developing economic cooperation with Germany.

According to reports, Baker said in an interview, "The United States does not like the close economic relationship between Germany and Russia. To destroy this relationship, they are doing something, or may have tried to do something."

Baker pointed out that Western countries have no intention of publicly investigating the sabotage of natural gas pipelines. For them, the most convenient explanation is to directly say that Russia sabotaged it.

For strategic reasons, Washington cut off Russia's energy and economic ties with Germany and most of Western and Eastern Europe, Baker added.

Baker concluded, "I think that many American politicians have expressed displeasure with this close relationship (between Germany and Russia) for strategic reasons. The United States exerted a lot of pressure on Germany, and in the end, Germany gave in."

Seymour Hersh, a well-known American investigative reporter, published an article on the 8th stating that through a large number of detailed descriptions and plots, he concluded that the "North Stream" pipeline that transported natural gas from Russia to Europe was destroyed in September 2022 , It was secretly blown up by US intelligence agencies and US military personnel.

According to Hersh, in June 2022, during NATO's annual "Operation Baltic" military exercise, U.S. Navy divers placed remote-controlled bombs on the "North Stream" pipeline.

On September 26 of the same year, Norwegian military planes dropped sonar buoys to detonate bombs, destroying three of the four pipelines of "Beixi-1" and "Beixi-2".

The Pentagon later claimed that the United States had nothing to do with the bombing of Russia's "North Stream" natural gas export pipeline.

In addition, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova commented on Hersh’s investigation of the Nord Stream pipeline explosion on the 12th, saying that “there are many facts in it (in his investigation).” At the same time, she asked when An emergency meeting of NATO can be called on this issue.
