“By a decree of the President of the Russian Federation, for courage, bravery and selflessness shown in the performance of military duty ... junior sergeant Maxim A. was awarded the insignia of the Order of St. George - the St. George Cross of the IV degree,” the Russian Guard said in a statement.

The award was presented to the cadet by the acting head of the military institute, Colonel Soslan Kozaev.

It is specified that the junior sergeant served under a contract in one of the military units of the special forces of the Russian Guard.

In January, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu thanked the military involved in the special operation in Ukraine for their courageous accomplishment of tasks.

He also inspected the headquarters of the Vostok group of troops while working in the special operation zone.
