US President Joe Biden intends to visit Poland soon, said White House press officer Karine Jean-Pierre.

“From February 20 to 22, President Joseph Biden will travel to Poland, where he will meet with Polish President Andrzej Duda to discuss bilateral cooperation between our countries, as well as our joint efforts to support Ukraine and strengthen the defense of NATO,” the press says. -release.

It is noted that Biden will also meet with the leaders of the Bucharest Nine countries.

This association, created to strengthen cooperation between the states of NATO's eastern flank, includes Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Estonia.

In addition, the president intends to deliver a speech in Poland, during which he will "tell how the United States has rallied the world in the name of helping the people of Ukraine ... and also about his intention to continue to support the people of Ukraine for as long as necessary," the White House said.

According to Americanist political scientist Malek Dudakov, Biden will travel to Poland both to discuss with the allies further support for Kyiv, and to solve domestic political problems.

“For Biden, this trip is part of the domestic agenda of the United States, part of the election campaign.

Many in the States believe that the current American leader has every chance of becoming a wartime president like Roosevelt or Truman.

In addition, the West is now discussing the supply of fighter jets to Ukraine.

Perhaps this visit will make it possible to reach an agreement on this issue, ”the expert said in a conversation with RT.

In turn, HSE Professor Dmitry Evstafiev drew attention to the fact that Biden chose Poland for his trip to Europe.

“This country has become the main operator of the distribution of aid to the Kyiv regime and the main political commissar under the Kiev regime, which will not allow any hesitation on the part of Ukraine.

In addition, Poland is the most comfortable place for Americans, where there is a 100% guarantee that no surprises like protests will arise there, ”said the RT interlocutor.

In his opinion, in Warsaw, Biden will try to convince Europe that the current US course towards Ukraine will be continued.

“Now you can see the unrest in the West, related to the question of how much the Americans are ready to continue to take a hard line on the conflict in Ukraine and whether they can continue to raise the stakes.

Therefore, the main goal of Biden’s upcoming visit to Europe is to strengthen the confidence of Europeans that everything will continue at the same pace until the very end,” explained the analyst, who believes that another important purpose of the trip will be to analyze the readiness of Poland’s infrastructure for a possible further escalation of the conflict.

Against the backdrop of a series of scandals

Reporting on Biden's upcoming trip to Poland, the Associated Press drew attention to the fact that the visit of the American president will take place against the backdrop of a decrease in the level of support for Ukraine in American society.

Despite the fact that, according to polls, the majority of Americans are still in favor of supporting Kyiv, in recent months there has been a trend towards an increase in the number of opponents of such a policy, experts say.

Thus, according to a January Pew Research Center poll, 26% of US citizens believe that Washington's support for Kyiv is too great.

Compared to March 2022, this figure increased by 19 percentage points.

Moreover, 40% of respondents adhere to this point of view among Republicans (an increase of 31 percentage points compared to March 2022), and 15% among Democrats (an increase of 10 percentage points).

In turn, an NBC poll conducted at the end of January showed that American society was actually divided equally in assessing the need for further support for Ukraine.

When asked if Congress should provide Ukraine with more weapons and funding, 49% of respondents answered yes and 47% said no.

4% of respondents did not decide on the answer.

At the same time, 63% of Republicans oppose the expansion of assistance, while the majority of Democrats (67%) believe that an increase in support is acceptable.

According to Malek Dudakov, there is an increase in skepticism in the American society regarding support for Kyiv, but the significance of this phenomenon should not be exaggerated.

“Indeed, there are such sentiments, but in the short term this is unlikely to affect the policy of the US administration,” the analyst said.

In turn, Dmitry Evstafiev drew attention to the fact that similar trends in public sentiment are observed in Europe.

“If earlier only Hungary was a weak link in the issue of assistance to Kyiv, today there are more such vulnerable points.

Even in Germany, such sentiments are recorded.

This is not happening because of anti-fascist or pacifist ideas, but because the Germans felt earlier than others that they would have to pay more for supporting American policy towards Ukraine than they expected, ”the analyst said.

At the same time, as Yevstafiev noted, for the Biden administration, the more significant factor is not the mood in society, but the loss of control over the House of Representatives by the Democrats, which makes it difficult to make decisions on further assistance to the Kiev regime.

“Biden is coming to Europe amid a series of scandals that are very dangerous for him that are connected with Ukraine, as well as the loss of freedom of action by his administration regarding assistance to Ukraine.

The new composition of Congress, especially the House of Representatives, is already gradually demonstrating that the administration will no longer have complete freedom in making financially burdensome decisions on Ukraine, ”the expert said.

Visit with reservations

Biden's previous visit to Poland took place at the end of March 2022.

Then he met with President Andrzej Duda and the American soldiers of the 82nd Airborne Division, who are serving in Poland.

Then Biden made a number of important statements about the tightening of sanctions against the Russian Federation and the need to end Europe's energy dependence on Russia.

According to experts, some statements of the American president caused a great resonance and the press service of the White House had to disavow them.

Thus, the owner of the White House told the US military in Poland that they would allegedly soon be in Ukraine.

“You will see for yourself when you get there – some of you have already been there,” the president said.

After that, the official representative of the White House had to explain that the United States did not intend to send American troops to Ukraine.

In addition, Biden said that, in his opinion, Russian President Vladimir Putin “cannot remain in power,” after which the White House was forced to make excuses.

“The president's point of view was that Putin should not be allowed to use force against neighbors or the region.

He did not mean Putin's power in Russia or regime change, ”the administration official offered his interpretation of what was said.

However, according to analysts, speaking in this vein about the Russian leadership, Biden let it slip and in the spring of 2022 expressed the true intentions of the West.

Experts believe that the United States and its allies have never abandoned the idea of changing the leadership in Russia, as evidenced by recent statements by some Western politicians.

Thus, the head of the German Defense Ministry, Boris Pistorius, in an interview with the Bild newspaper during a visit to Kyiv on February 7, said that, in his opinion, without the Russian president, the world "would be better."

The Russian Foreign Ministry called this statement "absolutely unacceptable."

The West “in its reckless support of the Kyiv Nazis crosses all conceivable and inconceivable boundaries,” said the official representative of the department, Maria Zakharova.

Recently, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki also made a call to dismantle the political system in the Russian Federation.

In an interview with the Italian edition of Corriere della Sera, he added that the defeat of Russia became the raison d'être for Poland.

Maria Zakharova criticized this confession.

“What is more in these arguments: stupidity or meanness?

Both are part of wild hatred.

And she is self-destructive, as you know.

Keep it up Morawiecki!

Your anger works for your defeat,” the diplomat said.

According to Dmitry Evstafiev, Western politicians not only did not abandon the goal of changing the political regime in Russia, but also expanded this idea.

“It is no longer just about replacing the leadership in Russia, now the goal is to destroy the Russian state and destructure Russian society as much as possible so that the Russian Federation does not have a socio-cultural, economic, or political-institutional basis for existence as a great power.

This time they will not repeat the mistakes of 1991 and, in the event of their victory, will not leave Russia with either nuclear weapons or their own single integral state.

In this sense, the idea of changing the political system is not only preserved, but it is developing very deeply and very aggressively,” the analyst concluded.
