The Sudanese authorities announced on Friday evening that the convoy of Saad Adam Abkar, governor of Central Darfur state (west), was shot by outlaws, which resulted in the injury of 3 soldiers.

This came in a statement issued by the office of the Governor (Wali) of Central Darfur State, published by the Sudanese News Agency.

The statement stated that an earlier convoy came under fire in the Gildo area in the West Jebel Marra locality yesterday at noon by two outlaws, which resulted in the injury of 3 soldiers with varying degrees of injury.

He added that the security forces combed the area extensively after the incident and the shooters fled to the middle of the Marra Mountains.

The statement indicated that immediately after the arrival of the convoy of the governor of Central Darfur state to the city of Zalingei (the center of the state), the security committee of the state held an emergency meeting during which it discussed the circumstances of the incident and pledged to pursue the perpetrators.

Jebel Marra is a rugged mountain range extending from the north of the Darfur region to its south, over a length of 280 km.
