With the entry of the sixth day of the earthquake that struck southern Turkey and northern Syria, and despite the diminishing chances of finding survivors, the Turkish rescue teams managed today, Saturday, to save 23 people.

Search and rescue teams are racing against time to find survivors among the rubble of thousands of destroyed buildings that collapsed after the two violent earthquakes that struck 10 Turkish states, the center of which was Kahramanmaraş.

For his part, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that the death toll from the earthquake disaster had risen to 21,043, and 80,097 had been rescued so far.

At dawn on Monday, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria, followed hours later by another with a magnitude of 7.6 and hundreds of violent aftershocks, which left huge losses of lives and property in both countries.

On Tuesday, the Turkish President declared a state of emergency for a period of 3 months in 10 affected states: Adana, Adi Yaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, and Sanliurfa.

The specialized teams were able to rescue the citizen, Abdullah Keskin, and his handicapped son, Ahmed, in Gaziantep, southern Turkey.

  • Ozlem Yilmaz, 35, and her daughter, Khadija, 6, were rescued alive from the rubble of a building in Adi Yaman, southeast of the country.

  • In the Turkish state of Kahramanmaraş, the Syrian youth, Hassan (34 years old), was rescued from under the rubble of a building destroyed by the earthquake in Oniki Shabat district.

Search and rescue teams pulled a woman out of the wreckage of a destroyed building in the "Nizip" district of Gaziantep, southern Turkey.

Azerbaijani rescue teams managed to save Mrs. Fatima, 50, after she spent 120 hours under the rubble of her house destroyed by the earthquake in Kahramanmaraş, southern Turkey.

  • Rescue of Mrs. Mashallah Cicek (55 years old) in Diyarbakir state, southeastern Turkey, 122 hours after the earthquake.

  • In Kahramanmaraş, the elderly Mankesh Tabak (70 years old) was rescued from under the rubble of a building destroyed by the earthquake.

The elderly, Halima Gurbuz, 83, was pulled out alive from under the rubble in the Batal Gazi district of Malatya Province.

  • The rescue of a non-commissioned officer in the Turkish army, Osman Gurbuz, and his wife, Um Gurbuz, after they spent 128 hours under the rubble of their demolished house in Adi Yaman state. Rescue teams also recovered the bodies of the three children of the Gurbuz family.

  • A baby boy was pulled out alive from under the rubble, in Hatay Province, in the south of the country.

  • Rescuing the child Arda Can Ovon (13 years old) from under the rubble of his demolished house in Hatay state.
