72 hours have passed since the massive earthquake near the Syrian border in southern Turkey, where the survival rate is said to drop sharply, and rescue operations are continuing on the ground.

A man from Turkey living in Osaka is worried about the safety of his brother, who was buried under a collapsed apartment in a town near the epicenter.

Shahin Bahattin (52), who works at a Turkish restaurant in Naniwa Ward, Osaka, is from Adiyaman, a city in southern Turkey near the epicenter.

Sahin said his wife and four children in Adiyaman were safe, but his 42-year-old brother was crushed under the collapse of an eight-story apartment building where his brother's family lived. I still don't know if I'm safe.

Full-scale rescue operations began more than two days after the outbreak, and Mr. Shahin is worried about the 72 hours that the survival rate is said to drop sharply.

"My heart hurts because my brother is under the rubble. I can't do anything and I'm sad," said Shahin with a sorrowful expression.

In addition, his wife and children are forced to take turns in the car to keep themselves warm, and food and water are in short supply.

Furthermore, it is difficult to contact family members because mobile phones cannot be charged and radio waves are poor.

Mr. Shahin appealed, "There are many people in the area who have lost their homes and jobs, and are in need of everything. We need support both mentally and materially."
