According to reports, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), an animal welfare group, said it obtained emails and documents showing that Neuralink failed to properly package implants taken from monkey brains in accordance with the federal Hazardous Materials Act before shipping them. And these implants may carry infectious disease pathogens.

A Department of Transportation spokesman said it took the group's concerns "very seriously." "We are conducting an investigation to ensure that Neuralink complies with federal regulations and that its employees and the public are protected from potentially dangerous pathogens."

According to previous reports, in December 2022, Neuralink faced a US federal investigation for possible violations of animal welfare laws during animal experiments.

At the time, employees said that due to Musk's request to speed up the research, unnecessary suffering and death were caused to animals.
