The campaign was initiated by a group in Nybro.

The situation for the people of Syria was already difficult even before the earthquake due to prolonged war, with economic sanctions as a result.

In addition, it is currently cold in the northern parts of Syria with freezing temperatures at night.

- After many years of war, the earthquake came and destroyed what was left of the original buildings.

We have brothers and sisters in Syria who are freezing, and we who are in Sweden must help them, says Abdul Qadir Al-Batran, one of the members of the Muslim Cultural Association in Nybro.

"Not only Arabs"

One of the organizers of the campaign in Kalmar, Osama Madi, says that many organizations and people in Sweden have worked together to collect aid and send it to northwestern Syria.

- The donors are not only refugees or Arabs, but we have also seen many Swedes and people with different backgrounds who have expressed their sympathy and interest in donating winter clothing to Syria.

The Church of Sweden is involved

The Church of Sweden has also had a role in the campaign, and spreads it further via social media.

- Social media has played an important and powerful role in telling everyone how to donate and where to donate, says Osama Madi.
