According to the plan, an additional 50,000 tonnes should be able to be received this year, the company states.

- In Italy, they have found themselves in a situation where they have had to close down many of their landfills because they do not meet EU requirements.

Then, during a transition period, a lack of capacity has arisen.

Our facility was founded by the Swedish state in 1969 to take care of society's difficult and complicated waste in a safe way, says Jessica Cedervall, CEO of Fortum Waste Solutions Sweden.

Must not pose a danger to the environment

According to Cedervall, the material received must be well packaged and the asbestos placed in the facility's landfill must not pose any risk.

- There is no danger to the environment when it comes to this waste, she confirms.

Has an environmental permit

The landfill located in Kvarntorp has an environmental permit to be able to house a total of 3.9 million cubic meters of environmentally hazardous masses.

Currently, approximately half of that capacity has been used by the companies that have been active in the area over the years.

Similar waste has previously been received at other locations in Sweden by other companies.

- It is the case that we run a business where we charge to be able to receive waste, and that also applies to this waste.

After all, the disposal of waste is associated with costs and we need to ensure that we get coverage for that, says Cedervall.
