Since last autumn, Uppsala city library has had an account on Tiktok.

There, a so-called "BookTok account" was operated with, among other things, book reviews and tips.

Three librarians maintained the account and, until now, posted about two videos a week.

But after criticism, the account has now been paused following a decision by Uppsala municipality.

Threats from China

Presence on Tiktok can be associated with threats to privacy and integrity.

This is the opinion of Daniel Forsman, who is the city librarian in Stockholm and unit manager for digital libraries.

- Since Tiktok is owned by a company based in China, they have to cooperate with the Chinese state and we classify that as a security risk, he says.
