Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said at the meeting that Master Hsing Yun, the founding patriarch of Fo Guang Shan in Taiwan and the founder of the International Buddha Light Association, passed away on February 5, and we are deeply saddened.

The Taiwan Affairs Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, and the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait expressed their deep condolences on Master Xingyun's passing away.

  A reporter asked at the meeting: Master Hsing Yun, the founding patriarch of Fo Guang Shan in Taiwan and the founder of the International Buddha Light Association, passed away on February 5.

During his lifetime, Master Hsing Yun opposed "Taiwan independence" and advocated cross-strait peace. His greatest wish was to see cross-strait reunification.
