Despite America's strained economy, Biden emphasized that the economy is benefiting from 12 million new jobs, that covid-19 no longer controls Americans' lives and that America's democracy remains intact despite facing its greatest threat since the Civil War, according to Reuters.

- Today, even if it is damaged, our democracy remains unbent and unbroken, he said.

Overcome differences of opinion

Biden stressed that Democrats and Republicans need to overcome differences.

- We are often told that Democrats and Republicans cannot work together.

But over the past two years, we have proven the cynics and the naysayers wrong, Biden said.

In his speech, he stuck to his earlier pledge to try to unify the country, highlighting a massive infrastructure bill that many Republican lawmakers have opposed.

- I sincerely thank my Republican friends who voted for the law, Biden said.

"Our children are learning to hate each other"

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, former President Donald Trump's press secretary, dismissed Biden's positive vision of the state of the country.

- In the America of the radical left, you are taxed by Washington, which burns up your hard-earned money.

But you are crushed by high gas prices, empty grocery shelves, and our children are learning to hate each other because of race,” Sanders said in a televised statement.
