In 2016, the Parinov family fled Russia.

Repression against regime critics had hardened, and according to Elena Parinova, she and her husband Andrij were active in the opposition to Putin.

The family fled to Ukraine where they applied for asylum, but while waiting for the decision, war broke out.

Then Elena Parinova and her two sons fled to Sweden, while the husband remained in Ukraine to fight against Russia.

He is now at the front in Donbass.

The family has settled in Fagersta, but was recently denied asylum in Sweden.

After the rejection of their asylum application, the family appealed to the Migration Court, which has now returned the case to the Migration Agency.

The Swedish Migration Agency believes that it does not matter from a Swedish perspective that the family applied for asylum in Ukraine, but that they only take into account that they are citizens of Russia.

If the family is deported, the son Dmytro Parinova may be called into the Russian army - and forced to fight against his own father.

- I refuse to do it, it is an army that tortures and kills civilians.

I can imagine fighting for the Ukrainian army, because Ukraine is my homeland, he says.
