In a three-year project, the researchers at ESA, the European Space Agency, will explore whether it is worth investing in solar energy from space on a larger scale.

SVT has met Dr. Sanjay Vijendran, who leads the Solaris project.

He believes that it is not unrealistic, partly because the costs of postponement have decreased in recent years.

- The technology has developed so it doesn't have to be science fiction anymore.

We believe that solar energy from space, if we invest and research it, can start contributing to the fossil-free energy mix as early as 2035 or 2040, he says.
