“Shoigu expressed his sincere condolences to Hulusi Akar in connection with the numerous casualties and destruction in the Republic of Turkey that occurred as a result of the earthquake,” the statement said.

Shoigu also offered to provide assistance in the aftermath of the earthquake through the military department.

Earlier, Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the death of 912 people as a result of the earthquake.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin told Erdogan that Russia is ready to provide the necessary assistance in connection with the earthquake and Turkey.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia announced the readiness of the department to send two Il-76 aircraft with rescuers to Turkey to eliminate the consequences of the earthquake.
