Throughout his career, Arsenij Morozov has written songs in Russian and he is active in several indie bands.

The most famous are Sonic Death and Padla Bear Outfit.

- We used to be interesting because we wrote in Russian.

But now when people ask where we come from, we don't know what to answer.

We come from Mordor, the country that terrorizes other countries, says Morozov.

Now he writes songs in, among other things, Ukrainian and Georgian, even though he doesn't know either language particularly well.

He translates his texts with Google translate.

- I needed to distance myself from the Russian language and the imperialist mindset.

I thought a lot about my guilt and the connection to our culture.

I wanted to get rid of the part of me that didn't want to think for itself.

This is exactly what Russian propaganda is about, says Morozov.

He has participated in anti-Putin protests since 2011, but last March he left Russia.

- I basically lost everything - my income, my career, my family, my newly bought apartment that I had only lived in for three days.

Life in Georgia

When the war started, many Russian and Ukrainian artists were banned from performing in Russia after they had publicly taken a stand against the war in Ukraine.

Their concerts were canceled after pressure from authorities and record companies have canceled many contracts.

Instead, many bands tour Europe and donate money to charity.

So does Arsenij Morozov, but on location in Georgia: his new homeland.

- I cannot imagine performing in Russia as long as Putin is in power.

It doesn't matter if we are persecuted or not.

In addition, it raises questions if one is not banned from performing.
