At least 400 people died as a result of an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 that occurred in southern Turkey and northern Syria. According to Turkish emergency services, the earthquake hit around 04:00 local time, the tremors were felt in more than eight provinces of the country. In Syria, an earthquake damaged the Citadel of Aleppo. Turkey has the highest level of alert.
