This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov following talks in Baghdad with Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Iraq Fuad Hussein.

RT is broadcasting live a press conference following the meeting.

“We expressed our full support for the efforts being made by the government ... to improve the situation, to ensure security and fight terrorism,” Lavrov said.

At the end of January, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani and French President Emmanuel Macron signed an agreement on strategic partnership between the two countries during negotiations at the Elysee Palace.

The agreement, in particular, implies cooperation in the field of the economy, the fight against terrorism and extremism, cultural exchange, and environmental protection.
