“Europe never had military sovereignty,” he wrote on Telegram.

Pushkov explained this by the fact that since 1949 the military affairs of Europe have been under the jurisdiction of the North Atlantic Alliance, and mainly the United States, whose military bases are located in European countries.

Thus, Pushkov noted, European countries are directly dependent on Washington.

“The military sovereignty of the EU is impossible in the conditions of participation in NATO of almost all countries that are members of the EU,” the senator stressed.

In December, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed confidence that European countries need to achieve greater autonomy from the United States, including within NATO.
