In the past six months, Coop Nord, which operates in Västernorrland, Jämtland and Västerbotten, has seen an increase in the sale of short date goods by 20 percent.

- And it is visible in new customer groups, who have not previously actively searched for being able to save in this way, says Stefan Eriksson, member and communications manager at Coop Nord.

Bags sell out fast

A couple of weeks ago, some Coop stores in the north started packing cheaper goods in ready-made boxes with a short date and selling them via an app.

They now sell out quickly every day.

ICA store manager Alexander Björk in Skellefteå also sees an increased interest in the reduced-price goods with a short date.

- It is probably due to inflation and the fact that the price of food has gone up, he says.

Reduces wastage

Tina Andersson in Skellefteå usually checks for food with a short date price.

- Partly because it's cheaper and you reduce food waste, she says.
