After clicking on the QR code, according to Zubarev, a chat bot opens in the messenger, which talks about the supposedly due payment.

It asks for personal financial information.

“They need this information to steal money from the card,” said the deputy head of the Central Bank. 

Earlier, Kaspersky Lab reported an increased activity of scammers.

Also, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Cabinet of Ministers and the Central Bank to create a mechanism for paying compensation to victims of fraudsters.
