Soon the first electricity support will arrive.

It will only be distributed to private individuals who are on the electricity contract and live in electricity areas 3 and 4. It will be based on electricity consumption between October 2021 and the end of September 2022.

The most important thing to remember if you want the money as quickly as possible after the start date of February 20 is to register your account in Swedbank's account register by February 13 at the latest.

If you do not register an account with Swedbank, the money will be paid out to your account with the Swedish Social Insurance Agency or the Swedish Pensions Agency.

According to Malin Stridh at Svenska kraftnät, it is also important to be vigilant for fraud before the payments.

- The authorities will not contact you and ask you to log in somewhere or ask for your personal codes, she says.

New support for the whole country

The new electricity support package, which was approved today by the Energy Market Inspectorate, will go to the entire country and is intended to replace 80 percent of households' electricity consumption during November and December.

However, it is not yet clear when it will be paid out.

It will be given to all households throughout Sweden, but only if one's name is on the electricity contract.

If you live in a household where you yourself are not on the electricity network agreement, for example in an apartment where electricity is included in the rent, you will not receive any electricity subsidy.

The same thing also applies to companies that rent their premises, they also run the risk of being without support, which SVT has reported on before.

There is no ceiling

When the government tasked Svenska kraftnät with drafting the proposal for electricity support, it was desired that it would be possible to set a maximum ceiling for support to large electricity consumers and that the support would take into account households living in colder parts of the country.

However, when Svenska kraftnät submitted the proposal, no ceiling was included.

- It would have been time-consuming to get access to detailed information about, for example, consumption and temperature between the various electricity areas during the specified time period, which would affect the timing of payment.

But even if we had the information, it is difficult to come up with a ceiling level that is fair for an entire electricity area, as the temperature variations within a larger area can be large, says Malin Stridh.
