China News Service, Seoul, February 3 (Reporter Liu Xu) The Ministry of National Defense of South Korea stated on the 3rd that the South Korean and US Air Forces carried out a joint air exercise of fifth-generation fighter jets over the western waters of the Korean Peninsula that day.

South Korean Air Force F-35A and U.S. Air Force F-22, F-35B and other fifth-generation fighter jets participated in the exercise, as did the U.S. F-16CM fighter jet.

South Korea's Ministry of National Defense stated that the purpose of this exercise is to enhance the joint combat capabilities and coordination capabilities of the South Korean and US Air Forces. In the future, the South Korean and US Air Forces will maintain a solid joint defense posture and continue to strengthen joint exercises.

This is the second time that South Korea and the United States have held a joint air exercise two days later.

On the 1st of this month, South Korea and the U.S. Air Force implemented a joint air exercise, and the U.S. Air Force B-1B strategic bomber participated in the exercise.

On January 31, the defense ministers of South Korea and the United States held talks in Seoul. The two sides reiterated the need to strengthen the "extended deterrence capability" of the United States, and decided to expand the scale of joint military exercises and improve the level of military exercises this year.

On the same day, South Korean non-governmental organizations held a protest rally in Seoul, saying that in order to open the road to denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, the US "extended deterrence" policy such as the "nuclear umbrella" must first be abolished.
