• Municipales Feijóo chooses Daniel Sirera as the PP candidate for the Mayor of Barcelona

  • Politics The PP boasts that Feijóo is "sensitive to the Catalan differential fact" and the PSOE accuses them of "sowing fear" with a referendum

Daniel Sirera

left his position as chief of staff of

Carlos Mazón

, leader of the PP in Valencia, a few weeks ago to return to Barcelona and lead the party's candidacy in the municipal elections.

Considered a black leg of the Catalan PP, highly appreciated by the militancy, his return to Catalonia is a request from

Alberto Núñez Feijóo

to lead constitutionalism and throw

Ada Colau

out of the mayor's office.

How do you explain the gradual loss of institutional representation of the PP in Catalonia?

There are several factors.

One of them is that being part of the PP in Catalonia is not easy.

We have been demonized from the public and private media, the parties signed the Tinell Pact to expel us from the institutions... This pressure means that many people do not want to complicate their lives by getting into politics.

Now there are many last-minute constitutionalists, but 40 years ago, when I joined the party, there was only the PP, only we defended those values and we were the ones who received all the milk.

This pressure is also received by the positions and militants of Cs, Vox... But the PP acted from the Government on 1-O, others did not pay that cost.

To those people who stopped collaborating with the PP so as not to receive the attacks,

I want to tell you that here is a PP willing to show its face.

I have not come to be a candidate to put myself in profile.

I will defend the same principles and values that I have always defended.

It is true that in the past there were people in the party, not the leaders, who felt excited by other forces that they thought were going to better defend our principles.

I tell these people that I am the same as always, my traceability as a constitutionalist is beyond any doubt.

The space of the center right in Barcelona is very divided with the PP, Vox, Cs, Valents, and in the polls it appears almost as residual... The polls say that we are the constitutionalist party with the most options of having a strong representation in the consistory and thus be able to stand up to nationalists and left-wing populism.

I ask, therefore,

that we concentrate the vote in the PP so that it is the house of all the constitutionalists.

I'm not asking you to give me your vote, just give it to me and trust me.

One of the fears of many Catalan constitutionalist voters is that with Feijóo it will happen as with Rajoy or Aznar: that the PP will agree with the nationalist bourgeoisie.

That's not going to happen again.

We have a national president who has been president of his autonomous community and understands the importance of the PP being strong in each community.

He fully understands that his interlocutor with Catalan society is and must be the Catalan PP.

This is essential to build a Catalan PP comparable to any PP from other communities in Spain.

We aspire to govern Barcelona and Catalonia.

We are not going to give up our principles for any pact and the national leadership is going to support us in that.

The city model has been in crisis in Barcelona for years, but no one knows or can propose an alternative.

What are the axes of your proposal?

The problem of insecurity is basic.

The data from the Ministry of the Interior, which is not exactly suspected of being from the PP, indicates the increase in crimes in recent months.

This projects an image of an insecure Barcelona, where it is better not to go as a tourist, where it is better not to invest because it looks like a theme park for citizen insecurity.

We must make Barcelona a safe and clean city.

And how do you intend to stop the increase in insecurity?

There are 3,500 Mossos agents missing in Barcelona and some 1,000 from the Urban Police.

I am in favor of putting more police on the street.

It is important that there be a police presence because it guarantees our freedom.

Also,

It is important that law enforcement officers feel supported by the City Council, which, whether supporting a criminal, a squatter or them, will always be on the side of the police.

The police will be able to work well with me.

When a city is safe, the economy is better, more tourism comes... And in the economic field?

Many stores, hotels, offices that closed due to the pandemic continue with the blinds down.

I have a simple recipe: few taxes and few obstacles to trade.

Recover the big events and fairs, expelled by the conflicts caused by the independence movement.

An open, fun and slightly scoundrel city, that people are happy to live in it.

As it happens in Valencia and Madrid.

Barcelona has become a sad city, where people look at the ground.

We must recover Barcelona's pride.

After the last elections, Manuel Valls prevented the independence movement from governing by supporting Ada Colau.

The thesis of the lesser evil.

Do you share it?

We are not going to support those who have been the cause of the problem.

The degradation of Barcelona is due to the policies of the commons and the PSC.

And there are two other actors, ERC and Junts, who want to turn the city into a lever at the service of independence.

Our priority is that Barcelona stays out of the

process

.

We will talk to everyone, but it is difficult to reach an agreement with those who have destroyed Barcelona and with those who want to put it at the service of independence.

Xavier Trias, who, like you, returns to the political front line, is currently leading the polls.

Does it surprise you?

Trias is an independentista, let no one be fooled.

If Trias had not governed Barcelona badly for four years, putting it at the service of the

procés

, Colau would never have reached the City Hall.

The emergence of him in the polls is due to the fact that he has appeared as a revulsion in the nationalist space.

But we cannot forget that he has been, along with Colau, the worst mayor Barcelona has ever had.

It's hard to say a single good thing he did for the city.

Does the possibility of Trias winning the elections deny Félix Bolaños when he affirms that the

procés

has died

?

You have more tools at your fingertips than ever before.

The Government allows nationalism to rearm itself.

The independence movement knows that it has a Spanish government that depends on them, that it has pardoned those who tried to carry out the coup, that it modifies the crime of embezzlement and sedition.

They know that if Sánchez is there and they do it again, there will be no consequences.

The PSC has just agreed on the budgets of the Generalitat with ERC... It is proof of the triple pact of the left: Moncloa, for Sánchez.

Generalitat, for separatism.

Barcelona, for Ada Colau.

It is a triple condemnation for Spain, Catalonia and the city of Barcelona.

But it is a pact that does not offer clarity: voting for the PSC in Catalonia is giving power to separatism, now led by ERC, and to Colau's left-wing populism.
