US President Joe Biden affirmed - during a call with Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani - the United States' commitment to the strategic framework agreement with Iraq and supporting its economy.

The call coincided with a meeting held by a delegation from the Central Bank of Iraq with a delegation from the US Federal Bank in Istanbul, Turkey, to discuss the issue of depreciating the value of the Iraqi dinar against the dollar and restoring the price to its value set by the Iraqi government.

According to a statement issued by the White House, Biden and Al-Sudani discussed the prime minister's economic action program to ensure an Iraqi economy that serves the Iraqis, "and this is a policy supported by the United States," according to the statement's expression.

The US President referred to the upcoming visit of Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to the United States next week, which aims to discuss economic issues in Iraq in the first place.

The Iraqi markets are witnessing a major crisis after the exchange rate of the Iraqi dinar against the US dollar fell below the rate set by the Central Bank of Iraq, which led to market confusion and fears among citizens of a further rise in the price of the dollar despite the Iraqi government's assurances that the exchange rate would return to the specified level.

The exchange rate of the dollar in the Iraqi markets and stock exchanges reached more than 1,700 Iraqi dinars per dollar, in a new indication of the growing exchange rate crisis in Iraq, despite government promises and recent measures to limit the rise in the exchange rate.

The White House said that the call that took place between Biden and Al-Sudani was attended by King Abdullah II of Jordan - who is currently visiting Washington - at Biden's request, during which the three parties discussed the situation in the region.

According to the White House, Biden assured the Sudanese of Washington's commitment to helping Baghdad, stressing his country's commitment to the strategic framework agreement signed between the two parties.

In the phone call, the US President praised the attempts and efforts of the Iraqi Prime Minister to support the sovereignty and independence of Iraq.

The statement indicated that Biden and Al-Sudani renewed their commitment to ensuring that the Islamic State does not threaten the Iraqi people or regional and international security again.
