“We call on the US President to refrain from selling F-16 fighter jets to Turkey until it stops blocking NATO accession protocols for Finland and Sweden,” the statement said.
According to congressmen, Turkey's unwillingness to accept applications from Stockholm and Helsinki should not be "ignored".
As US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland said earlier, Turkey's approval of Finland and Sweden's admission to NATO would facilitate the sale of the F-16.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara did not receive either fighter jets or the money paid for them from the United States.
