This is stated in the message on the website of Goznak.

It is noted that in recent months there has been an increased volume of applications for the personalization of foreign passports, in connection with which the need for microcircuits embedded in the passport form has increased significantly.

The report says that the manufacturer of such microcircuits, Mikron JSC, is now reconfiguring equipment and optimizing technological processes in order to meet the increased demand for microcircuits in the future.

“We expect that after its completion, the rhythm of production and personalization of foreign passports will be restored within a month,” Goznak said.

Earlier, the public services portal informed that Russia temporarily suspended the acceptance of applications for the issuance of new passports.

At the end of January, it was reported that more than 5.4 million foreign passports were issued in Russia in 2022, which is about 1.5 million (almost 40%) more than in 2021.
