Medvedev was born in Siberia.
His parents died when he was 12 years old and he was then placed in an orphanage, according to himself.
In 2014, he was drafted into the Russian military.
He said it was his first deployment in Donbas, but then declined to give more details, according to Reuters.
Medvedev has previously been convicted of, among other things, robbery.
He decided to join the Wagner group in July 2022, when he had served his last prison sentence.
