The summit with the 27 is an important step that comes several months after kyiv obtained official status as a candidate for EU membership.
In his speech on Tuesday night, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky hoped the summit would reflect a high "level of cooperation and progress" with the EU.
"We are waiting for news for Ukraine," he added.
For its part, the Russian army, which in recent days has continued with the offensive, claimed on Tuesday the conquest of a town near
